What You Need to Know
When is it?
Saturday, February 25th 2017 from 8am to 7pm ET
Where is it?
Valdosta State University
STEAM Center for Applied Creativity and Innovation (Martin Hall)
Patterson St., Valdosta, GA
Who can participate?
The Hackathon is open to participants who express an interest in computer science, engineering, or computer design and plan on physically attending the event. Both college and high school students are welcome to compete, but must be able to show current enrollment as an active student at a verified school or institution. Teams are composed of 2-5 students and can be created at the event or arranged beforehand.
What does it cost and what does it include?
It’s free! Includes access to onsite WiFi, computers, food, drinks, swag, and the opportunity to commune with like-minded IT geeks (and we mean that in a good way!).
What are the rules?
In order to qualify for the competition and for prizes, ALL code, design, art, music, SFX, and assets must be created onsite during the 8-hour duration of the Hackathon. Third party services, APIs, open source projects, libraries, and frameworks are encouraged. All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during the Hackathon.
There will be no alcohol served or allowed at the event. Most importantly, be respectful, be thoughtful, be open and have fun!
We also observe and enforce the MLH Code of Conduct.
What should I bring?
Laptops, chargers, cell phones, and anything else that you need to be a decent human being for a day. Oh, and a passion for developing something truly innovative always helps!
What are the prizes?
All demos will be judged at the end of the Hackathon. They must be submitted by the deadline and presented by each team for the judges to evaluate. The judges will evaluate projects and score the teams based on five criteria: innovation/creativity, quality, user-friendliness, accuracy, and overall presentation.
Top prize is $1000 to the winning team, $500 for second place and $250 for third place.
