The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) authorizes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide reimbursement incentives for eligible professionals and hospitals who are successful in becoming "meaningful users" of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. 
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2009 has allotted $19 billion in healthcare information technology funding. Through the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive program, incentive payments up to $63,750 per provider will be available to eligible professionals (EP) that are meaningful users of certified EHR technology.
Physician ePrescribing Incentives
The Medicare ePrescribing incentives allows for up to a 2% increase in allowable Medicare charges incentive payment, and applies up to a 2% reduction in allowable Medicare charges by the year 2014 for all those providers who are not actively using a qualified ePrescribing system. This begins with a 1% reduction on charges in 2012, if not implemented in the year 2011.
The Medicare and Medicaid government incentive program provides incentive payments for EPs and hospitals to adopt, implement and use a certified EMR/EHR and per meaningful use guidelines.
