AHI Billing Tips: Prepared for ICD-10?
In August 2008, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it would update universal health-care diagnosis and procedure codes with the expanded ICD-10 set and will require providers to fully implement them by October 11, 2011. Providers currently use the ICD-9 set, which was developed 30 years ago. According HHS, the cost to a typical small practice of switching to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) code sets within the HHS’ time frame will be more than $83,000, a medium sized practice would cost $285,000.
Be sure to contact your billing software vendor to find out how they will handle the switch and how much it may cost your practice. For more information on ICD-10 please feel free to visit our resources page at http://www.azaleahealth.com/resources or contact Doug Swords at (229) 269-4620.
